aortic dissectionは専門用語で的確な病名を表しますが、会話では「破裂」を意味するtearやruptureを使うとより自然でしょう。

He/She has been in the hospital because her aorta had been ruptured.（大動脈が破裂したので入院しています）

Aortic dissection occurs when the inner layer of the aorta tears.（大動脈の内壁が破れると大動脈解離が起こります）
