It is very hard not to laugh without smiling. Happy When someone is happy about something they or another person has done then they can express happiness through a smile.

When talking about the facial feature of being happy it is called a 'smile' or a 'grin' although when smiling you are said to be 'happy' or 'cheerful'

There are various phrases which describe how people appear where a smile may be an essential factor. To be bright and breezy means to be cheery and wide awake. "John seems bright and breezy today!"
