「[値段](https://eikaiwa.dmm.com/uknow/questions/36967/)が高い」は英語で expensive や the price is high と言えます。 When I went to Switzerland, I was surprised at how much more expensive most things were than in Japan や When I went to Switzerland, I was shocked at how the higher the prices of things were than in Japan It felt like everything in Switzerland was more expensive than in japan. Why is everything so expensive?

Things in Switzerland are more expensive than things in Japan. Things are much more expensive in Switzerland compared to Japan.

値段が高いってそのままに訳すと「the price is higher/more expensive」を言います。

If you travel somewhere and everything is more expensive than it is in Japan - and you wish to express that point, then you may try one of the exampled sentences above. Note- the past participle or past simple of 'cost' when used in terms of prices is 'COST' not 'COSTED' as indicated by another anchor. Eg 'Yesterday I bought a watch which only COST $10.'
'Yesterday I bought a watch which only COST $10.'

When visiting other countries you might find the prices of things are cheaper or more expensive Much more expensive means they are alot more money than somewhere else you could also say 'price are higher' this means the same thing

Prices are higher in Switzerland than the prices are high in Japan. (↑このように言わないが、隠れている単語を書くとこうなる) Prices are higher in Switzerland than they are in Japan. 繰り返しになる単語は代名詞にしたり、省略したりする) Prices are higher in Switzerland than in Japan.

  • Everything costed a lot in Switzerland.

  • Things were overpriced in Switzerland.

    play icon

"Costed a lot" is another way to explain that something was expensive, or we can say it "costs a lot of money." "Things were overpriced in Switzerland" is another way to explain how much more money it costs to buy things in Switzerland in comparison to other places. If something is overpriced, then it's above what the average or expected amount should be.
「costs a lot of money(お金がたくさんかかる)」とも言えます。

expensive = (値段が)高い more expensive = もっと高い cost more = もっとコストがかかる、もっと高い 例: "Which is more expensive? Your guitar or your watch?" "I was surprised that in Switzerland, things cost way more than in Japan." 例: "I'm sorry but this restaurant is a little too pricey, can we go somewhere else?"

By saying that something is cheaper than another country you are also saying that one country is more expensive than the other. When you say 'far cheaper' its means that Japan is allot more cheaper than the other country.

例文は「Traveling abroad is expensive.」と「Traveling abroad is pricey.」

These expressions are used when explaining that the country Switzerland, in comparrison to Japan, is more expensive. The term "pricey" is a very common and causual expression used when something is expensive. "Have you tried the new restaurant in town? it's very good but a little pricey".
