準備したほうがいいのに何も準備なしで本番に挑むことを「wing（it)」とよくいいます。動詞として使います。

The expression "on the spur of the moment" means without any planning in advance.
"Impromptu" means unprepared or unrehearsed
"On the spot" also means unplanned.
Any of these expressions can be used.

ただ、今回の場合は原稿はあるけど練習ができなかったという意味になるかと思いますので、 I didn't have time to practice at all. （練習する時間が全くなかった）と言うのが自然だと思います。

The most common expression when we do something without any practice or preparation would be to say that, "I winged it." In addition when we do something, "on the spot," or that we, "improvised it," it also means that we really didn't practice to prepare anything before.
