望ましいって英語でなんて言うの？

「望ましい」のニュアンスに近いのはdesirableという単語です。

It's more desirable for you to stay here with your baby.
「あたなはここで赤ちゃんと一緒にいる方が望ましい」

At least one year of experience in teaching math is desirable.
「少なくとも１年間の数学指導経験があることが望ましい」

Using this method is more desirable.
「こちらのメソッドを使うのがより望ましいです」

このように採用募集広告などでも見かけます。

preferableは、preferという動詞の形容詞形です。preferは「好む」という意味で、preferableにも「望ましい」の意味もありますが、どちらかというと、「（何かに）よりふさわしいか適切だ」というニュアンスが含まれている「好ましい｣という訳し方のほうが合っています。

When trying to learn a language, it is preferable to live abroad.
新しい言語を学習しようとしているときに、海外に住んだほうが望ましい。
