短縮は英語で shorten と言います。これは動詞です。
例えば「仕事の時間を短縮しましたが、生産性があがり今まで以上の成果がでています」と言いたいなら I shortened working time, but productivity has gone up, and results are better than ever before が一つの言い方です。
shorten の代わりに reduce でも使えますが、reduce はだいたい量を減らす意味です。shorten は長さを短くする意味です。

短縮するの「contract」は契約の「contract」と違う発音にご注意ください。短縮の方が「クントラックト」（クより、「uh」のような発音）で、契約の方が「カントラックト」と言います。

他の方がおっしゃった通り、例の文章での「短縮」の英訳は"shorten" (短くする）もしくは"reduce" (減らす）です。
ですから、言いたがる文章の英訳は"Although working hours were reduced, productivity was better than ever."
working hours = 仕事の時間
were reduced = 短縮された（主語不明なので、念の為受け身形で翻訳しました。）
productivity = 生産性
better than ever = 今まで以上に良い
しかし、「短縮」は他の英訳もあります。例えば、"abbreviate" (省略する）です（名詞は"abbreviation" 「省略」です）。例えば、"'BBQ' is an abbreviation of barbecue." ("BBQ"はバーベキューの短縮系です。）
