cut down on、cut back on はどちらも、〜を減らすという意味です。
お酒は、alcohol（アルコール）でも、drinking（飲酒）でも通じます。
医者に言われた、という表現は、
I was told by my doctor to cut down on alcohol.
（私は医者にお酒を減らすよう言われた）
と、受動態に直訳してもいいのですが、英語では能動態で表現することも非常に多いので、
ここでは「医者が私に〜するよう言った」と転換してみるとより簡潔にまとめることができます。

（医者は私にお酒を減らすよう言った）＝医者に言われた
２つ目の文は tell＋人＋to＋動詞の原形（〜するよう言う、命令する）を
advise（アドバイスする）に変えてあります。（ちなみに名詞のアドバイスはadviceですね）

Drinking is not good for my health and I have chose to drink less.
I will not drink like I am doing right now.
I will only drink on the weekends.
