4chan という英語の画像掲示板があり、広く認知されています。このサイトは実は日本の 2ch や 2chan（ふたばちゃんねる）をモデルとしたとされています。なので、It's a textboard like 4chan（4chan みたいな掲示板だよ）と説明すればわかってくれる人が多いと思います。It's a Japanese textboard that 4chan was modeled after.（4chan のモデルになった日本の掲示板だよ）と言っても良いですね。
もし 4chan を知らない人に説明する時は単純に a Japanese textboard（日本の掲示板）と言うと良いと思います。2ch のようなオンライン掲示板のことを textboard と呼びます。
より詳しく説明するのであれば次のように言えます。
例：
2ch is a very popular textboard website in Japan, and actually is said to be a website that 4chan was modeled after.
2ch は日本ですごく人気のある掲示板サイトで、実は 4chan のモデルになったと言われているサイトなんだ。
