  • I want to learn British accent.

ご質問ありがとうございます。 I want to learn British accent. 私はイギリスのアクセントを学びたいです。 上記例文がシンプルかつ、ストレートに伝わる表現かなと思います。 「イギリスの」は、EnglishでもBritishどちらでも伝わりますが、私はこのようなフレーズでは後者をよく使います。 ちなみに私はオーストラリアに10年程住んでいますが、オーストラリアアクセントはイギリスアクセントに近いですよ! ご参考になれば幸いです。

  • The Queens English...British (BBC) pronunciation

  • Many believe the true sound of the British accent is reflected in the Queen's English!

Her Majesty The Queen of England has a distinctive and highly polished, upper-class British accent and many agree that her version of the spoken word should be taken as the epitome of the "True British Accent"! Or A very POSH Accent! The Queens English is clearly heard on the BRITISH BROADCASTING COMPANIES NEWS PROGRAMS. (The BBC) as spoken by the royal family and other members of the upper classes in the UK.

  • At the moment, I speak with an American accent but I want to start to speak with a British one.

  • My accent is American, Id much prefer to speak with a British accent.

  • I prefer the British accent but at the moment, I have an American.

Some people prefer to speak the British accent as this has originated from the Queen's accent who is more upper class and very well known and spoken. In the UK, you will be heard a lot easier if you speak with the British accent as you will be taught with a 'posh voice' which means all the words are pronounced a lot clearer.

  • "I want to work on developing a British accent."

  • "I am American but I would love to have more of a British accent."

  • "Can we focus on my development of a British accent?"

"I want to work on developing a British accent." In this example you are clear with what your goal is and what you are hoping to achieve. "I am American but I would love to have more of a British accent." In this example you let the reader/listener know you have an American accent but wish to change it to a British one, or at least to learn and then have both. "Can we focus on my development of a British accent?" If you are speaking to your English teacher, you can ask them to focus on this element in the class. They can pay attention to pronunciation and even spelling so it in more in-line with British English.

  • I would like to speak English with a British accent.

  • When I speak English I have an American accent but I would like to learn a British one.

Learning to speak with a British accent and not an American one will be helped by listening to News Presenters. There are many different accents throughout Britain and whereas we can agree upon a 'general American' there is no British equivalent. My advise would be to find an area of Britain and focus on that pronunciation. I suggested News Presenters as they will speak clearly. Other words for you to investigate are 'regional dialects' and 'received pronunciation.' which may be of interest to you.

  • I want to learn how to do a British accent

When you want to express that you have an American accent but would love to learn how to put on a British accent; then you can say this in the following ways: -I have an American accent but I would love to have a British accent -I want to learn how to do/ put on a British accent

  • My pronunciation sounds American. I would like to sound more British.

  • I would like to speak with a British accent.

  • I would like to speak the Queens English.

"My pronunciation sounds American. I would like to sound more British." This implies to the listener that you have been taught 'American English' and you would like to adapt your accent to a more British pronunciation. This can be achieved by copying the way a British person speaks. "I would like to speak with a British accent." This shows your preference for a general British accent that you would like to adopt. Britain has a huge range of accents but there are similarities throughout the country which you can learn to use yourself. "I would like to speak the Queens English." The Queens English is an upper-class (or posh) version of the English accent. It is used by royalty and members of high-society. Often used as an example of how the language should be spoken with every word being pronounced very clearly. It makes the language very understandable but in reality, this is rarely used in the country.

  • I'd like to acquire a British accent.

  • I'd like to develop a British accent.

- I'd like to acquire a British accent. - I'd like to develop a British accent. These statements both mean that you want to work on changing your accent to sound more British. The verb "to acquire" means "to learn" or "to develop" a skill or quality that you currently do not have. Americans place strong emphasis on the letter "r" while British English speakers do not.

  • I want to learn how to speak with a British accent.

  • I want to speak with a British accent.

  • I would like to speak with a British accent.

Here are three different ways that we can talk about our desire to speak with a British accent rather than an American. Notice that the verbs we use can be interchanged a lot like with, "to learn how to..," or just say, "to speak with," on it's own. In addition, we can also say, "I would like," or, "I want," interchangeably as well.
