トイレの直訳は「toilet」で、場面によって自然に使います。

しかしアメリカ人はそう言われると、[便座](https://eikaiwa.dmm.com/uknow/questions/65253/)自体を想像して少しおかしく感じるので、多くのアメリカ人は「bathroom」か「restroom」と言います。
bathroomとrestroomの違い
bathroomの方は日常的ですが、restroomは丁寧です。どちらでも主にアメリカ人が使います。
toiletはヨーロッパの方がよく使います。
すみませんは相手の注意を引くときに「excuse me」と言います。

お手洗いを表す表現としては他に、
bathroom
restroom
lavatory
などがあります。toiletはダイレクトすぎる表現なので、使わない方が無難ですね。
