"to adopt a child" とは「養子をもらう」、あるいは「養子を引き取る」という意味です。
"to have a family adopt a child"とは「（ある）家族に養子を引き取ってもらう」と訳せます。
An example sentence in context:
"Fortunately, this child was adopted by a very loving family." （幸い、この子はとても暖かい家庭に養子として引き取られた）
Another family is going to take care of the adopted child.
Another family will take the adopted child into their home.
ーAnother family is going to take care of the adopted child.
「他の家族がその養子を引き取ってくれる。」
この場合「引き取る」は take care of ... を使って表現できます。
