英訳1：「痛ましい」は、「悲劇的な」という意味でもよく使う tragic が自然です。
英訳2：「歩道に突っ込む」は、この場合、運転していて道をはずすことなので、swerve「（乗り物などが）道をはずす」という単語を使い、swerve into sidewalk で歩道に突っ込む状況を表現できます。
「犠牲者」は、事故による犠牲者という意味で casualty があります。複数形の casualties で言います。
