「生まれ育った街」つまり「故郷」は英語でhometownです。単純に「故郷が物理的に離れている」と言いたい場合はOur hometowns are very far apart.と言います。その後に食文化の違いの説明が入ります。
例：Our hometowns are very far apart, so we often prefer different foods.
私たちの故郷がとても離れているので、食の好みが異なることが多い。
また、2つの場所が「物理的に離れている」より「異なるところが多い」という意味を使いたいときはWe were born and raised in completely different places.と言います。（私たちは全く違うところで生まれ育った）
My husband and I are from Tokyo and Kagoshima, which are really far apart geographically, so we often like different foods.
この場合、次のような言い方ができますよ。
ーMy husband and I are from Tokyo and Kagoshima, which are really far apart geographically, so we often like different foods.
「夫と私は東京と鹿児島という地理的にかなり離れたところ出身なので、よく食の好みが異なる」
to be far apart geographically で「地理的に遠く離れている」
