「感動した」は
I was so touched.
I was so moved.
のような言い方ができますが、この場合は次のように言った方が良いかなと思います。上記の言い方は間違いではないので使っても構いません。
例：
I hadn't seen the cherry blossoms for five years. I forgot how beautiful they were.
「桜を5年見ていなかったが、どんなに美しいものか忘れていた」
I hadn't seen the cherry blossoms for the last five years while I was living overseas. They really grabbed my heart.
「ここ5年海外に住んでいる間桜を見ていなかったが、とても感動した」
to grab one's heart で「心を捉える・揺さぶる」＝「感動する」のように表現できます。
