「開幕戦」はもちろん the first game (of the season) で通じます。それ以外で他によく聞く表現を紹介します。
１、opening game
opening は「開幕」という意味です。
２、season opener
season は日本語でもいう「シーズン」です。
３、opening day
こちらは「開幕初日」という意味です。
例：
We got tickets to the opening game!
開幕戦のチケットを手にいれた！
Our team won the opening game. It was a great start to the season.
