傘をさすって英語でなんて言うの？

今日雨が降っていて、友達と傘をさすって英語でなんていうんだろうね？という話しをしました。教えてください。

日本語の「さす」に引きずられて、英訳がなかなか思いつかないパターンですね。
でも、傘をさす時の行為そのものを想像すれば

To open→「広げる」
To put up→「張る、掲げる」

が思いつき易くなります。英語の意味を覚える時もビジュアル化して記憶に落とし込むようにすると忘れにくいですよ！

傘に関連した例文をいくつか紹介します。

「傘さそうかな」　 I wonder if I should put up my umbrella?
「私の傘に入りなよ」　Get under my umbrella.
「傘をたたむ」　To close an umbrella や To fold an umbrella

いろんな言い方がありますが、シンプルに
You should use an umbrella so you don't get wet
濡れないように傘使ったらいいと思う（傘をさしたらいい）

傘が必要

傘をさすことじたいなら→open up an umbrella, open your umbrellaでいいですが、
会話ではそれよりもI need an umbrella, I'm using my umbrellaがお勧めかな。

To open an umbrella means to change it from its closed and secured form, to it's fully open form. there are many different mechanisms these days, but this phrase caters for all of them.
"Mike opened his umbrella as it started to rain."
To sport something is to have or wear something in a proud way. For example, to sport a beard.
"She was sporting a T-shirt with the company's logo on it."

To open an umbrellaとは、しっかり閉じられた傘を完全に開くことを言います。最近はここのメカニズムがすごく複雑になったよね。けど、open an umbrellaでとりあえず問題ないです。
"Mike opened his umbrella as it started to rain." 雨が降り始めてマイクは傘を開いた。
sport は、動詞で誇りをもって身に着ける、という意味があります。
例；"She was sporting a T-shirt with the company's logo on it."
その会社のロゴの入ったシャツを彼女は誇りをもって着ていた。
