In normal conversations, we answer with "I can help you," but when speaking to a child, we tend to change the pronoun to our name. In this case, you can say "Mama can help you." If you weren't the child's mother, you could say your name: "Trish can help you." It is considered good fun and, along with the extended vowel sounds and 'Coos' is a great way to encourage toddlers to talk, although some people may consider this practice a little sickening to witness! As baby's speech develops, baby talk is phased out. When the child is a little older, for encouragement, parents may use the first person plural, 'We' when becoming involved with a challenge, so that the child feels supported and included in the activity (see expression 3).

In the first sentence, you are reassuring the child that you are always there to help him/her. You are relieving him/her of his/her insecurity and lack of confidence. The child will gladly ask for help from you, not only now that you have reassured him/her, but always. In the second sentence, you are directly offering the child help. Most children display timidity, especially if they fail to do something on their own and may not immediately ask for help. You are bound to notice that the child needs help and you directly offer the child your help by saying: 'I can see you need help. Let me help you my child'. By adding the phrase 'my child' you are again reassuring him/her that you are his/her mother and that you are there to help him/her with anything.

When talking to your child depending on their age would depend what you call yourself to them. to an older child you would normally call yourself 'mum' but to a younger child you might refer to yourself as 'mummy' sometimes children like to do things by themselves so speaking in a soft voice will maybe encourage them to let you help them

"Do you want mummy's help?" Often this can be used more as a statement rather than a question, depending on the tone/pitch you would say this. "Mummy" more frequently used for children is a very common way to say 'Mum', others include muma,Mom(American spelling),Mumma,Ma etc.

Why don't you ask your mom to help you? - This is asking the child indirectly why he/she is struggling and he/she knows that the mom can be asked to help. Example Child: I can't do this! Me: Ask your mom for help. Example Child:I can't do this! Me: Why don't you ask your mom for help. Example Child:I can't do this! Me: Mom will help you.
