I am sorryは他の先生が出されていますので、apologizeをあげておきます。
sorryよりも謝罪の度合いが強くなりますが、ビジネスでは割と使います。
説明不足ぐらいならsorryでいいかなとも思いますので、今回の場合はsorryでいいかもしれません。
ランケンは間違いを書いて送ってしまった場合などはapologizeにしています。
ただ、相手に意図がしっかりと伝わっていないで、相手が間違ってしまってお詫びしたいならばapologizeの方が適切に感じます。

should have ～（過去分詞）で「～すべきだった（のにしなかった）」という後悔の気持ちを表すことができます。
「ごめんなさい」は単純にI'm sorry.でいいかと思いますが、それ以外に自分に非があることを認める表現として

My bad.「僕のせいです」
などもありますので、合わせて覚えておかれると良いのではないでしょうか。
