Tea is consumed by drinking it because it is a liquid. However, it is not drunk the same way other liquids such as beer or juice are drunk, it is sipped because it is drunk while it's hot. It is drunk in sips. The word 'sip' operates both as a verb and as a noun. It has been used as a noun in the first and second statements, but, it has been used as a verb in the third statement. Say, when the lesson started, you were already drinking tea and had to carry on drinking it during the lesson, you may say to the teacher:
I am drinking tea and I hope you don't mind me taking a sip teacher.
or
I just would like to take a sip of tea if you don't mind teacher.
or
I hope you don't mind me sipping some tea teacher.
お茶は液体ですから 'drink'（飲む）することで消費されます。しかし、ビールやジュースなど他の飲み物とは飲み方が違います。お茶は熱くして飲むので 'sip'（すする）が使われます。
'sip' は動詞または名詞として使われます。一つ目と二つ目の例では名詞として使われています。三つ目の例では動詞として使われています。
例えば、レッスンが始まる前からお茶を飲んでいて始まってからも飲まないといけなかったときには、次のように言えます。
