しかし'pancake' だけでは「スイーツなの？」と勘違いをする方もいるので「塩味のついた」という意味の ’savory' を付け足します。

In English, we don't always change the names of foreign dishes into English. Dishes, such as sushi and sashimi are now well known in English, and they don't need to be explained. Alot of terms for food in Japanese people would understand what they are so you could simply say 'Okonomiyaki' and generally most peoole would understand although to explain better you could call it a 'savoury pancake' which usually consists of eggs mixed with flour and other ingredients and then cooked

Normally when explaining a foreign dish, you refer to something that you are already familiar with. Everyone knows what a pancake is, and the same goes for an omelette, it is something very common. They are both egg based, flat and fried so they can both be used to refer to "Okonomiyaki". So when you call it a Japanese style pancake/omelette a Native speaker will understand that it is not a regular pancake or omelette, but rather something that can be very different from what is known as a regular pancake or omelette.

The second part draws a similarity to a common or known food item.. in Europe and many nations an Omelette or Pancake is commonly known and understood.
You could also explain the ingredients as in the third example which explains the difference in ingredients... for example the cabbage is not commonly used in traditional English Pancakes...
