In our family when taking photos we would say "say cheese" like the first time or two then change to say "say money" or "smile for the birdie" to get people to laugh because they would be expecting you to say "say cheese" again. You can use any word that rhymes with cheese that causes people to form a smile when they say it like the word cheese does such as "easy peasy", "teeth", "me", "we", "please", "feet", etc. Any word with "ee" sound will work. The funnier and more unexpected the better.

There are many things that people say when they are about to take a picture. For the most part, they just say whatever is relevant to the picture, so if it is someone's birthday, they will say "Happy Birthday!"

When trying to get people to smile for a photo then you can use any word you like as long as you get a smile from them. 'say cheese' is the most popular but it also depends who you are photographing so for kids you might get them to shout something to get them all to smile

When you are trying to take a picture of people and trying to get them to smile, then you may say "three, two, one and smile". Alternatively, you may say "say _____________" For example, if you're at a new year's eve party, then you can say "say Happy New Year".
