"Using his brain" は文法的に間違っていないんですが、少し不自然に聞こえます。
use(s) his wits の方が同じ意味で、「賢さを使う」というニュアンスのより自然な英語になります。
"arrested on a false charge" は正しいが、逮捕されるまでの話にしかなりません。
falsely convicted and imprisoned の方は裁判の宣告と禁錮もはっきりします。
