「逆」は the other way around/round という使い道の広い表現があります。
たとえば、It's the other way around.（それは逆だよ） は、順番、状態、話の内容など、話の流れに応じた意味になります。
これを使って、
「もし作業の順番が逆だったら（リニューアルは）失敗していただろう 」
の時制は、事実と異なる過去に関する仮定なので、仮定法過去完了です。
if the sequence of operation had been the other way around/round, the renewal would have ended in failure.
となります。
「もし英語とプログラムを学ぶ順番が逆だったら、うまく学べてなかっただろう」
も時制は同じです。
If the order of studying English and programming had been the other way round, I couldn't have studied either properly.
