なぜ「生きているはずがない」かと言ったら、 if I had an accident each time that there was class （授業の毎回の時に事故があったら）という理由です。
would は will の条件形です。if と一緒に will を使うなら、 would になります。 can なら、could という形の助動詞です。
If I had an accident every time, I wouldn't survive.

「毎回事故に遭っていたら、私は生き残れませんよ。」
