おっしゃっている「なんか」は英語に訳すとsomething がいいと思います。
物音がする,雑音が聞こえたときなどはnoise を使って、I can hear a noise from the kitchen. キッチンから物音がするという表現もできます。
hear=聞こえる
noise=物音、異音
from=~から
kitchen=キッチン

When you can hear something from somewhere, for example, when you hear a sound from the kitchen, you can explain that by using one of the above suggestions. You may of course also use appropriate body language.
"I just heard a noise.", can be used to say that you heard something in the immediate past. By using the word, "just", you are expressing that only a moments or a few moments ago, you heard a noise. The verb, "heard", is in the past tense. As a result, you should use this sentence when referring to the past.
"I can hear a noise.", also expresses that there was a noise, but it uses the present tense verb, "hear", to say that the noise is happening in the present moment. "Can", shows that you hear the noise because you have the ability to hear it.
"What was that? I heard a noise.", can be used to refer to the past because of the past tense verb, "heard". A question can also be asked before the sentence to ask someone if he/she knows what the noise was. This question and sentence can be said at any time to refer to a noise that occurred at some point in the past.
"I just heard a noise."(音が聞こえた。)は、ちょうど何か聞こえたことを言いたいときに使うことができます。 "just"を使うことで、ちょっと前に音が聞こえたというニュアンスが伝わります。動詞"heard"は、過去形で、聞こえたという意味です。過去のことを話しているのでこれを使います。
"I can hear a noise."(音が聞こえる)も、音が聞こえることを伝えていますが、現在形の動詞"hear"(聞こえる)を使っています。その音が今もしていることを表します。"Can"は、聞こえる、~できるということを意味します。
"What was that? I heard a noise."(何だった?音が聞こえた。)は、過去形"heard"を使っています。相手に音が聞こえたかどうか聞くことができます。質問と音が聞こえたという文は、さかのぼって音が聞こえたどこかで言うことができます。
