推定するって英語でなんて言うの？

通常の推定するという意味ではestimateが一番適する動詞と考えます。 We estimated the cause of the accident. 我々はその事故の原因を推定した。 あるいは受動態で、The cause of the accident was estimated. 他の表現はThe cause of the accident might be considered to his negligence in observing the rules. その事故の原因は彼の規則無視によるものと考えられる。considerという動詞は、熟慮する、しっかりと考えるという意味をもつので、様々な事柄を考慮した結果そう考えられる、また、ここで助動詞may (might)を使い少し遠回しにいうことで、考えられる、推定される、と表現しています。 presumeという動詞は不確定な気持ちで思う、考えるという意味をもっているので、ここでは単に、推定されるけど、確かなことではないとニュアンスを含んでいます。
