  • I can't speak English very well and when I get nervous, it makes it more difficult.

  • My English is not very good mainly because my nerves make it harder for me.

  • Because I get nervous, it makes it difficult for me to speak English.

The first sentence acknowledges your difficulty with speaking English and explains that when you get nervous, it becomes even more difficult to speak the language. The second sentence explains that the main reason why your speaking isn't the best is because you get nervous. The third sentence states that the cause of your difficulty with speaking the language is your nervousness.

  • Although I am not good at speaking English, the main reason I cannot talk is because I become too nervous.

この場合は、あまり英語も話せないけど、一番の理由は、緊張して話せないことという意味として使いました。 Although I am not good at speaking English は英語も得意では無いけど、という意味として使います。 I am good at memorizing, although it is time consuming. は記憶力はいいけど、時間がかかるという意味として使います。 Although はでもあるいはだけど、という意味として使いました。 これはこうでもという時によく使われます。 main reason は主な理由という意味として使います。 cannot talk は話せない理由という意味として使いました。 become too nervous は緊張しすぎてしまうという意味として使います。

"I get nervous while speaking English so I end up making mistakes". "My English speaking skills aren't great but the main reason for this are my nerves". Both examples are telling the reader/listener the same thing however the sentence structure has changed between them. Both apply and it is a good example of how you can start the sentence with either piece of information, that is, your issue with your nerves or the struggle you have with you English speaking skills.

There are some unusual and interesting words and phrases to describe the inability to speak out when we are needed to do so;-) Vivid images are often used like: tongue-tied. I lose my tongue/become speechless There is also an old yet lovely word that also works... Flummoxed! (anxious and baffled. bewildered)

  • My nerves effect my ability to speak English.

When we struggle - we find something hard or difficult. It's very common in English to say we're struggling with a language. i.e. "I'm struggling to learn French because..." Again it's common to say we're not confident in a language. This shows that we do have knowledge in a language but because of our nerves we don't have the confidence to speak as well as we could. Hope this helps :) don't be afraid to make mistakes in a new language and you'll soon build confidence in English :)

  • My English will improve when I have more confidence.

When English is spoken aloud we can say 'speaking English' - which is the verb (the action of)as in sentence 1, or we can say 'spoken English' which then becomes a 'noun' suitable for sentence number 2. For a more positive perspective you can say that in the future, you will speak better English because you will have more confidence. - people who are nervous struggle from a lack of confidence.

  • I cannot speak English because I get too nervous.

To be nervous means to be scared, shy, withdrawn. Being too nervous to speak in English, could be due to the fact of not wanting to make mistakes or other people not being able to understand what you are trying to express to them. A great way to learn a language is by making mistakes, experience is the best teacher in life.

  • Speaking English makes me nervous, so I'm not very good.

Here are three different ways that we can express our nervousness affecting the ability for us to speak a second language. Notice that we can structure this in many different ways either by talking about how, "speaking English makes me nervous," or, "I'm not good at speaking because.." My suggestion is to play around with the different ways to say this and find what feels most comfortable for you.
