〜と思いきや〜って英語でなんて言うの？

「〜と思いきや〜」の形は英語で「I thought ~, but ~」と言います。場合によって「but」だけでも大丈夫ですが、後で期待外れ文章が必要です。 綺麗な寮だったと思いきやカメムシいる。 I thought it was a clean dormitory, but there were stink bugs. 筋トレをやめると思いきやジムに週に5回に行くことになりました。 I was going to quit weightlifting, but I started going 5 times a week instead.

・I thought it was a beautiful dorm, but it turns out there are stink bugs. 「綺麗な寮だったと思いきやカメムシがいる」 I thought（〜だと思っていた＝〜と思いきや）と it turns out（〜ということが判明した）を組み合わせることで伝えられます。 ・It looked like a nice dorm, only to find stink bugs inside. 「素敵な寮に見えたと思いきや、中にカメムシを発見した」という意味の表現です。
