とある単語帳には、"There is a door at the front side and the back side of the house."とあります。しかし、家全体で考えるとドアは前側と後側に計二つあります。なぜ、"There are two doors ..."にはならないのでしょうか。
There are two doors, one in the front and one in the back.
単語帳の英文が There is となっているのは、家の前のドアが１つ、家の後ろにドアが１つ、という意味で言っているからです。（合わせて２つという意味ではない）
これを合わせて２つという意味で言うなら、次のように言えます。
There are two doors, one in the front and one in the back.
「前に１つ、後ろに１つ、（合わせて）２つドアがあります。」
There are two doors, one at the front of the house and one at the back of the house.
「家の前に１つ、家の後ろに１つ、（合わせて）２つドアがあります。」
