adversityは、目標の方向の逆に動かすこと、逆境というニュアンスが含まれています。
例えば、
She overcame adverse circumstances and was able to get into Tokyo University
彼女は辛い状況を乗り越えて東大に入れた
to turn a tough situation into opportunity
つらい状況を機会に転換をする
adversityはよく、乗り越えようとすること、というイメージで使われています。
plightの方が、可愛そうなイメージですね。何の意味もない辛い状況について使います。
例えば、
the plight of homeless people
ホームレスの人々の悲惨な苦境
the plight of refugees
難民の辛い状況
一番聞いたことあるplightの入っている表現はignore the plight of~ですね。
例えば、
That politician ignores the plight of single mothers
その政治家はシングルマザーの辛い状況を無視します
みたいな表現でよく使われています。
