There are two kinds of payment.
If the money is a fixed amount and you only give the bank permission to pay a certain amount every time this is usually a standing order.
If the amount is varied, because your bill is a different amount, and the payee can request a different amount every time then this is usually a direct debit.

2. This is a payment instruction you give to your bank to make regular payments of a fixed amount to a supplier.
3. This is a payment you can make any time from your account if you have internet banking 'set up' on your account.

Some systems may call it an "automated payment system", it depends on the company but in general it's an "automatic payment" because it's "automatically charged" from your bank account so that you don't have to worry about paying the bills at the end of the month.

For example:

Joe: Hey Bill, you got netflix right?
Bill: Yes, I do. Why do you ask?
Joe: Because I'm thinking about getting an account. How much is it per month?
Bill: They charge me $9.99 per month. But the great thing about is that I adon't have to worry about paying the bill because it's automated payment system!
Joe: Oh so your card is automatically charged? That sounds great!

Most suppliers or service providers like the banks, city councils etc prefer getting paid directly from a customer's bank account on a monthly basis. To do this, the bank account holder will give permission
to the supplier or service provider to collect money from the account holder's bank account directly on a monthly basis. This is called a debit order.
So, you may say:
I will be paying for the TV by debit order.
or
I will be paying for the TV by direct debit

*Order = an instruction.

Some banks offer something called "online bill pay," which is an electronic service that you set up with your bank in order to pay your bills automatically every month, or whenever they occur.

When you set up automatic payment through your service provider, this is called "auto-pay" or "automatic withdrawal."

A "direct debit" or "debit order" is when the bank automatically pays your accounts, such as the water bill, on a monthly basis.
