"I am so well rested after a great sleep last night"
If you wanted to express in the morning that slept well, you could say any of the following to express this: "I had such a good sleep last night", "I slept really well last night" or "I am so well rested after a great sleep last night".
朝起きて「よく寝た」と言いたいなら、次の表現が使えます。
"I had such a good sleep last night"(昨日の夜はよく眠れました)
"I slept really well last night"(昨日の夜はよく眠れました)
"I am so well rested after a great sleep last night"(昨日の夜よく眠れて、すっきりしました)
The first two examples are the regular phrase versions of this idea when speaking to someone. Notice that when we use, "well," it functions as an adverb for the verb, "to sleep," whereas we would use, "good," as an adjective when we use the noun, "sleep." The last example is an expression in English, "like a log," to describe that we had a deep sleep and didn't wake up to any noises or didn't move at all during our sleep.
"I slept like the dead last night!" is an expression that explains that you slept really well last night without any interruptions or waking up. We can guess where this expression comes from. The dead don't move and never wake up. This is how we compare a good night's sleep to the dead.
"I had a great night's sleep": This is another way of saying that we slept without interruptions and it can also mean that we slept for a long time. Maybe before we weren't getting enough sleep and then we made up for it
"I slept like the dead last night!"(昨日の夜はぐっすり眠れました)
これは「昨日の夜は、途中で起こされることもなく、ぐっすり眠れた」という意味です。だいたいこの表現がどこから来たか分かると思います。死人(the dead)は動きませんし目を覚ますこともありませんね。そんな風に寝ていたということです。
"I had a great night's sleep"(よく眠れました)
この表現は「途中で起こされることもなく、ぐっすり眠れた」という意味です。「長い時間眠ることができた」という意味を表すこともあります。
あるいは睡眠不足が続いていてそれを解消できたということかもしれません。
