  • socio-economic

    play icon

  • Working class or middle class

    play icon

  • financial climate

    play icon

All of the above vocabularies can be used in this instance. e.g. What socio-economic conditions did you grow up in. This means what social and economic factors were around while you were growing up - what type of house did you live in? did you have a car? how much money did your family have? e.g. What type of financial climate did you grow up in? Again, this is asking what kind of upbringing you had in regard to money and finances. What benefits or hardships you experienced. When we ask someone if they are middle class or working class we are also asking them about their upbringing and then amount of finances and opportunities available to them,. e.g. A working-class family has two parents that work and money is good but there is not a lot of extra money. Maybe they have one car and one holiday a year. A Middle-Class family may have only one, or two parents, that work, own a larger house, maybe two cars, go on holiday more than once a year and their children may go to private school. Hope this helps Jane :)
What socio-economic conditions did you grow up in. What type of financial climate did you grow up in? A working-class family has two parents that work and money is good but there is not a lot of extra money. Maybe they have one car and one holiday a year.(労働者階級の家族には働いている両親がいてお金がありますが、たくさん余るお金はありません。 A Middle-Class family may have only one, or two parents, that work, own a larger house, maybe two cars, go on holiday more than once a year and their children may go to private school.(中級の家族には一人または二人の親がいて、働いており、大きい家に住んでおり、おそらく2台の車があるでしょう。 Jane :)

What was it like growing up where you lived? IE did you have a comfortable childhood or, were you..."struggling to make ends meet" (idiom), living in poverty.

  • What was the economic climate like when you were growing up?

    play icon

The economic climate of a country refers to the the general condition of the economy in a particular country or in the world. However, if you ask an individual about the economic climate he/she grew up in you are asking about the financial status of his family when he grew up, whether they had enough money, or they were poor and struggling.

  • The economic background when I was a child

    play icon

Explanation: The situation, environment or pre-existing conditions may all be described alternatively as 'the background.' Example sentence: "Charles Dickens' early life was set against a background of poverty."
例文: "Charles Dickens' early life was set against a background of poverty."

  • I lived in a poor economic environment as a child.

The words "economic environment" refer to all financial aspects of your life. You have to add "as a child" to show that this occurred in the past, when you were younger.

  • socioeconomic status

  • class

In American English, I would used the phrase "socioeconomic status". For example: I grew up in a family with poor socioeconomic status. I was raised in a family with a privileged socioeconomic status. This idea encompasses a lot of other ideas inside of it. It talks about your place in society, how much money you make, your education level as well as that of your family. To a lesser extent, I could also use the idea of class. In America, we often talk about "low class" or "poor class" as well as "middle class", "upper class" and "upper middle class". These are loosely defined and do not have official measurements attached to them as a general rule.
I grew up in a family with poor socioeconomic status.(私は社会経済的地位が低い家庭で育ちました) I was raised in a family with a privileged socioeconomic status.(私は社会経済的地位が高い家庭で育ちました) "socioeconomic status" はいろいろな意味を含みます。
