"It was really nice meeting you."
This explains that you are happy you met the person.
"I'm really glad we met." This expresses to the person that you are glad that you met each other.
"It was really nice meeting you."

これはその人に会うことが出来て大変光栄だという事を言い表しています。
Depending on the formality of the situation your response for this will change slightly. If I was leaving a job interview I would respond "It has been a pleasure meeting you", whereas if I was leaving a party where I have just met someone I would say "lovely meeting you" or "Its been great meeting you". Either way, in any situation it is always polite to acknowledge that it has been a positive experience meeting someone for the first time.

Suggestion number 2 is more formal than suggestion number 3. 'Pleased to met you' is a common phrase used when speaking to someone for the first time.

When you meet someone new, most people just say, "Nice to meet you." If you want to start more of a conversation, you can ask a more personal question such as, "Where are you from?"
