  • Sorry, I took it too far

Taking something 'too far' is to do or say something that could cause offence or upset to someone. For example: "That movie was funny, but some of the jokes took it too far" "I was joking with my friend, but I took it too far and he got upset" "The book was good but some of the descriptions of violence were taken too far" By putting 'didn't' or 'don't' before it, it can be used to describe not describing something in enough detail, for example: "That was an interesting documentary, but I don't think it took it far enough" "It was a nice restaurant, but the theme didn't take it far enough"
【例】 "That movie was funny, but some of the jokes took it too far" (あの映画は面白かったけど、いくつかのジョークが少し行きすぎでした) "I was joking with my friend, but I took it too far and he got upset" (友達と冗談を言っているる時、ちょっと行き過ぎて彼を怒らせてしまいました) "The book was good but some of the descriptions of violence were taken too far" (この本はいい本ですが、いくつかの暴力の表現が行きすぎです) 'didn't' や 'don't'を前に付けることによって、何かを十分に説明していないという事をいいあらわすことが出来ます。 【例】 "That was an interesting documentary, but I don't think it took it far enough" (それは面白いドキュメンタリーでしたが、十分にいまいち説明されていませんでした) "It was a nice restaurant, but the theme didn't take it far enough" (とてもいいレストランだったけど、テーマが十分じゃなかったです)

  • Sorry. That was a bit too much.

また Too much!

Sometimes we may make a joke, and the recipient of the joke may take it seriously or you may "hit a sore spot" (make a joke to someone about something they are sensitive about). The best thing to do is to apologise, and avoid jokes about that topic in the future. To say something "in jest", means to say it as a joke.
「in jest」は「as a joke(冗談[ジョーク]として)」という意味です。

  • I'm sorry that joke may have gone over the top

    play icon

Explanation: 'Over the top' means to go too far or be too extreme with something. Example sentence: "When James decorated our home, unfortunately he went a bit over the top with dark colours."
【例文】 "When James decorated our home, unfortunately he went a bit over the top with dark colours."

When apologizing, it's important to use the full phrase "I'm sorry" because that shows that you truly feel bad. If you "take something too far" it means that you make a joke or do something that hurts or offends someone else. I hope that this helps! :)
"take something too far" は人を傷つけたり怒らせるような冗談や行動を表します。

  • Kidding, don’t take it too serious.

I guessで「〜かと思う」、a bit too muchで「ちょっと〜〜過ぎた」という意味になります。

1) I apologize, the joke wasn't funny.. 2) Sorry for the tasteless joke.「センスのないジョークを言ってごめんよ。」 3) Sorry, it was a bad joke.
