「空き地」は、a vacant lot, an empty plot/piece of land と言います。
例文１「以前空いていた土地に建物がたった。」というニュアンスです。
例文２「昔空き地だったところに今は建物がある。」と言うニュアンスです。
建物が1棟以上ある場合は、there is a building を there are a few buildings や there is more than one building と変えて言うこともできます。
