ご質問どうもありがとうございます。
お好みに合わせて使い分けてみてください。
「Forget the diet!」と、「Forget about the diet!」には、違いがありません。同じ意味で、同じ場面で使われます。個人的な印象でよければ、例文の「Forget about XY」は少し丁寧というかおしゃれな言い方に聞こえるような気がします。
細かいところまで文法から見れば、「forget something」と、「 forget about something」はどう異なるかというと、下記のとおりです。
- 「forget something」ものを忘れる(手で触れるもののお話となり、いわゆる抽象的でないもの)
例: I forgot my keys in the car. (鍵は、車に忘れた)
- 「forget about something」日本語だと、「もの」じゃなくて、「こと」のお話です。つまり、大体抽象的な現象、出来事などに限っています。
例: I want to forget about that day.
その(私にとってよくない)あの日のこと、忘れたい。手で触れないことですから、抽象的の「何か」ですから、aboutを使います。
しかし、それは文法上の理論です。実際の用法はそのルールに従わない可能性もあります。
お好みに合わせて使い分けてみてください。
ご参考にしていただければ幸いです。
When you are on a diet but are talking a day off to really treat yourself and enjoy some food that may be not so healthy for you it is a common expression to say, 'cheat day'. It means you are cheating on your diet, but it is allowed!
If you 'skip' something, it means that you abstain from this thing. If you 'take a break' from something, it means that you stop doing this thing for a period of time
「skip」は「~をやめる、控える」という意味です。
「take a break from ___」は「一定の期間___するのをやめる」という意味になります。
When you want to explain that you are going to forget about your diet today, you can say it in the following ways:
-I'm going to forget about my diet today
-I'm going to have a cheat day
The phrase "cheat day" when talking about diets usually means that you are going to forget about your diet on that specific day. It's usually a day when you eat anything you want.
「今日はダイエットのことを忘れる」と言いたいときに使える表現です:
-I'm going to forget about my diet today
今日はダイエットのことを忘れるわ。
-I'm going to have a cheat day
今日はズルする日。
"cheat day" は、ダイエットについて使われるとふつう「それ(ダイエット)を忘れる日」を表します。なんでも食べてもいい日といった感じです。
The three sentences you see above are excellent ways to express that you want to forget about your diet for the day. In the first sentence you will see the expression cheat day. A cheat day is one day that we have to eat whatever we want. In the second sentence you will see the expression on the back burner. That means that something is not a high priority for you. This expression is common in our everyday conversation and would be a great addition to your vocabulary.
三例とも、その日 (今日) はダイエットのことを忘れたいと表す言い方です。
一つ目の文にある「cheat day」は「食べたいものを食べる日」のことです。
二つ目の文にある「on the back burner」は「優先順位が低い、重要でない」という意味です。
日常会話でよく使われる言い方です、覚えておくといいと思います。
These are merely two options, but you may find that there are many others.
1.
"To take a break" means that you are deviating (doing something different) from the normal routine. In other words, "today" you will eat whatever you want, because it is different from any other day, where you usually follow a diet.
2.
A "cheat day" refers to a day where you do not follow your strict healthy eating plan or diet. People usually eat luxuries or fatty items on cheat days.
これらは2つの言い方の選択肢ですが、他にたくさんの言い方があるかもしれません。
1.
"To take a break" とは、いつもの日課とは違ったことをするという意味です。言い換えると、いつもダイエットをしているけれど、「今日」は食べたいものを食べようということです。
2.
A "cheat day"とは、厳しいヘルシーな食事のプランに従わない日ということです。cheat daysには、豪華な食事や脂質の多いものを食べる人が多いです。
