❶ I filled the tub and yet.....
直訳すると「お湯をためた、なのに…」です。
この言い方だと「せっかく」というニュアンスになります。
例えば、
I made dinner and yet no one was hungry.
(晩ご飯を作った、なのに誰もお腹空いてなかった)。
I filled the tub and yet no one took a bath.
(お風呂をためた、なのに誰も入らなかった)。

この機会に考えてみたのですが、この場合の「せっかく」は英語では聞かないかもしれません。
I filled the tub but nobody took a bath.
【訳】私がお風呂をためたのに、誰もお風呂に入らなかった。
I made dinner but nobody ate it.
【訳】私が夕食を作ったのに、誰も食べなかった。
もし、切なさを強調したいなら、別の一文で
All I did was meaningless.
【訳】私がやった全ては無意味だったのね。
と言うことでしょうか。
I went to the trouble of running a nice hot bath, but nobody had one.
I worked hard making a nice dinner, but no one ate it.
この場合、次のような言い方ができます。
ーI went to the trouble of running a nice hot bath, but nobody had one.
「せっかく熱々のお風呂を入れたのに、誰も入らなかった」
to go to the trouble of ...ing で「せっかく…する」
ーI worked hard making a nice dinner, but no one ate it.
「せっかく美味しい夕食を作ったのに、誰も食べなかった」
to work hard ...ing でも「せっかく…する」と言えます。
