もういない – don’t exist けど – but 彼らの - their 子孫 – descendants / progeny まだいるはず - must be still there 子孫の反対は祖先。祖先は英語で ancestorsと言います。 One of the many Meiji Era Restoration changes was abolishing the feudal class system. In so doing they abolished the samurai. the samurai that lost their legal status did not just disappear.
