If you are lare for something it is always good to apologise and say you are sorry so you could say 'I'm sorry' or 'sorry for being late'
by saying 'I thought the lesson was from 9' or 'I thought the lesson started at 9' explains why you were late

You thought your English lesson was from 9, but it was actually from 8. It's 8:10 right now. You can explain this misundertanding by using the above example statement. It would be normal and polite to add a comment of regret or apology if this situation ahs inconvenienced the listener.
