realize = 気がつく、実感するという意味の動詞です。
I didn't realize that. （それは知らなかった。気がつかなかった。）のように使います。I realized that he is not that bad guy. （彼はそんなに悪い人でないとわかった。）という表現となります。ご参考になさってください。
どちらも「彼が悪い人ではないとわかった。」という言い方です。
1) Now I know he's not such a bad guy after all.
not such a bad person で 「そんな悪い人でない」
2) I now realize that he's not a bad person.
I now realize の代わりに I now see とも言えます。
