In America, athletic shoes have many different names. The most common thing I have heard them be called are "sneakers", "tennis shoes" and "tennies". Tennies are short for tennis shoes. Many people say tennies when they are speaking to younger children. Shorter versions of words are often used when speaking to young children.
All three of these words can be used interchangeably to have the same meaning within a phrase or sentence. The one big difference I want to explain is that the word, "trainers," is more common in British English rather than American English.
These days BRANDS are very important in the Sport shoes arena...
and many people will refer directly to that fact:
I need a pair of NIKE's or Jordans (or whatever your personal choice!)
My old trainers are worn out ...I need some new ADIDAS!
"I need a pair of NIKE's or Jordans(または他のブランド)"
Trainers = shoes that people wear, especially for running and other sports
Gym shoe = a light rubber-soled canvas shoe, suitable for sports or casual wear.
You can say :
Trainers
Gym shoes
A) Training shoes/ Trainers -a soft sports shoe suitable for casual wear.
Example-"a decent pair of trainers"
*Sports shoe - A shoe specifically designed / used for running or any other type of active activity .
I hope this helps ! :-)
A) Training shoes/ Trainers -
"a decent pair of trainers"
*Sports shoe -

Shoes that you can exercise in are most commonly referred to in the English language as either of the following: "trainers", "sneakers" or "exercise shoes".
Example sentence: I went to the gym today in my new trainers. They were so comfortable.
I went to the gym today in my new trainers. They were so comfortable.(今日新品のスニーカーでジムに行きました。
Trainers
Running shoes
Sport shoes
I personally would call them trainers. Running shoes are a bit more specific, since you can get shoes for specific sports like, football boots or tennis shoes. But, in general, in England at least, they are called trainers.
I hope this helps.
Have a great day.
Will
Sneakers/trainers/gym shoes all refer to footwear that is
worn when one is performing any form of physical exercise.
Many people do not use these words when they are referring
to their sports shoes though.Instead they would use the
brand name, eg. "Oh no! I forgot my Nikes"/Reeboks at
home!"
"sneakers/trainers/gym shoes" これらは全て運動をするときに身につける靴を言います。
ただ、自分の履いている靴について言う場合、こうした単語はあまり使われません、代わりにブランド名を言います。
例えば:
"Oh no! I forgot my Nikes"/Reeboks at home!"(やばい!ナイキ/リーボックを家に忘れてきた)
To describe shoes that you can wear to exercise in, you can use a few options:
-tennis shoes (n)
This is an older expression that describes shoes that you can exercise in. They do not necessarily have to be shoes for tennis (although you can see the origin of the expression in the words).
-running shoes (n)
THIS IS THE MOST COMMON WAY TO SAY THIS. Again, the expression describes all shoes that you can exercise in,not just shoes to run in.
------- runners (n): slang for running shoes
If you would like to know what to call shoes that you exercise in, you can call them "sneakers" or in America it is also very common to refer to/call most types of athletic shoes "tennis shoes". This is a term mostly known in America and if you ask someone if you can borrow a pair of "tennis shoes" they will know you mean sports shoes.
Running Trainers, Sneakers and Athletic shoes are all different ways of saying the shoes you want to exercise in.
I need some new trainers for tonights gym class.
"Running Trainers" "Sneakers" "Athletic shoes"
I need some new trainers for tonights gym class.(今夜の体育の授業で新しい運動靴が必要になる)
Both trainers and sneakers mean the same thing but 'trainers' is used in the UK and 'sneakers' is used in the USA.
'Running shoes' refers specifically to trainers/sneakers designed for running: for example, they might lace up differently or be more cushioned.
