take over を使うのが一番一般的な言い方かと思いますが、それ以外を使って言うなら
take control of「支配権を握る」
hold sway「支配する・幅を利かせる・実権を握る」
を使って言えるかと思います。
例：
My wife's relatives took control of my company without me even realizing it.
「妻の親族が知らないうちに私の会社の支配権を握っていた。」
Before I even knew it was happening, my wife's family had begun to hold sway in my company.
