I found out about ... on the scrolling news caption のように言えると思います。 例： I saw the news caption about the airplane crash on TV last night. 「昨夜テレビで飛行機事故についてのニュースのテロップを見た。」 I found out about the airplane crash on the scrolling news caption of the local TV station. 「地元のテレビのニューステロップで飛行機事故について知った。」 「テロップ」は scrolling news caption とも言えます。scrolling はここでは「表示された文字や画像を左右または上下に動かす機能のスクローリングを意味します。 ご参考まで！

ご質問ありがとうございます。 「ニュース」＝「the news」 「テレビのテロップ」＝「TV telop」 「見た」＝「saw」 実は「telop」は私にとっても初耳です。和製英語だそうです。 「telop」は「TELevision OPtical Slide Projector」の省略ですので、「projector」だけと呼んでもいい気がします。特に、相手は海外から来た人の時です。 ご参考になれば幸いです。
