It is always good to apologize for poor punctuality. When someone oversleeps, it's common for them to say that their alarm did not go off. Or you could be more literal and just say that you were very tired.
時間に遅れたときには謝った方がいいですね。
"My alarm didn't go off"(目覚ましが鳴りませんでした)は、寝坊した人がよく言います。あるいは、より事実に近い言い方として、疲れていた(very tired)と伝えることもできます。

Please forgive me, I fell asleep.
The teachers have to call a certain number of times before they can mark you absent so don't feel bad that you overslept. Just be polite and offer to reschedule. Most teachers really are understanding. You can say, "I'm sorry I overslept. Can I reschedule?" or "I'm sorry I need to reschedule because I fell asleep this time", or "I'm so sorry I missed your class, I fell asleep."
If you don't want to reschedule you can just apologize and say "Please forgive me, I fell asleep".
