先生に、今日はどんな日だった？と聞かれて、いつもと変わらない一日だっていいたいのですが、どう表現したらいいのかわかりません。よろしくお願いします。

Nothing muchと答えたらそこで会話が途切れてしまう場合があるので
"What about you?"とか相手に聞いてみるのがオススメです。
When answering "How are you?" if you day has been uneventful, you can answer like this: "Nothing special." which mean just that, that nothing interesting or exciting had happened that day.

誰に会っても（知っている人でも知らない人でも）How are you? How was your day? と始まるのが英語のコミュニケーションです。ここで日本人は、（えーと、どんな日だったっけ？。。。ま、別に何もなかったしな～）と考えてしまい、決して自分のことをポジティブに語らないという、【日本語のフィルター】を通して答えてしまいます。基本的に、自分の日々のことをポジティブに語らない習慣が日本人にはありますね（「儲かりまっか～？」→「ぼちぼちでんな～」と答えても、ものすごく儲かってる可能性があります！）
【日本語のフィルター】をどけて英語を英語としてとらえた場合は、どんな時でも、I had a nice (good) day. くらいで答えておきましょう(^^;

If there is nothing unusual about your day, you can just say that it was nothing special. This is a very common and natural response when asked about your day. If you want to be more colloquial, you can simply say it was "the same old stuff just a different day" which is a more jovial response.
"Just the same old story" is a good idiom to use in these situations.

The second sentence alludes to a cult film: 'Groundhog Day' in which the main protagonist (Bill Murray) is caught in a time warp that causes the same day to be continuously repeated.
