There are a number of ways that you may describe the present position in a football match. A popular word which commentators use is 'trailing' with regard to the losing team. If a team is 'down' in a match it means the team is losing so far.
"Manchester United are down against Madrid." It could be 2 - 1 down or 5 - 1, it is just a description of the losing team's position.
"Manchester United are down against Madrid."(マンチェスターユナイテッドはマドリードに負けています)2対1かもしれませんし、5対1かもしれませんが、単純に負けているチームの状態を表しています。
*The current score is 3-1 and Japan is losing./Japan is losing 3-1.
This means that the other team is winning and their score is and Japan has 1.
For example:
A:The current score is 3-1 and Japan is losing.
B: It is still half time. Let us keep our fingers crossed. We may end up winning.
*The current score is 3-1 and Japan is losing./Japan is losing 3-1.
A:The current score is 3-1 and Japan is losing.(現在のスコアは3対1で日本が負けている)
B: It is still half time. Let us keep our fingers crossed. We may end up winning.(まだハーフタイムです。
"The score is Korea 3 and Japan 1."
"Currently, Korea is leading Japan 3 to 1."
The team that is winning is referenced first, then the team that is currently losing is second. Thus, "Korea 3 and Japan 1."
"Currently" is another way of saying at the moment. It means that Korea is winning, but only now. They might not actually win.
"The score is Korea 3 and Japan 1."
"Currently, Korea is leading Japan 3 to 1."
"Korea 3 and Japan 1."
In the first example, it talks about the score of the game from the perspective of someone who cares about Japan winning. To be "down" in this sense means to have less points.
In the second example, it talks about the score of the game from the perspective of someone who cares about Korea winning. If someone is "ahead" in the context of sports, it means that they are winning.
Korea's ahead by three goals while Japan only has one!
These are commonly used phrases when watching a soccer match. All three hold the same meaning. Be careful when using the word "losing" you follow with "to"while "winning" is followed by "over". Prepositions are very important.
Ahead by: means in the lead and would make the listener understand that Japan has only one goal.
Hope this helps!
We are said to be in form or ahead in a game or down /behind ina game...
Goals are all that count in soccer and when we are losing, we are said to be "down" x number of goals :-(
"Japan was down 3 goals to one at half time! "
"in form or ahead in a game" (試合に勝っている)もしくは"down /behind in a game…"(試合に負けている)と言います。
"goals"はサッカーにおいてスコアを数える単位です。負けているとき、"down" x ゴールの数と言います。
例文:
"Japan was down 3 goals to one at half time! "
Japan is trailing South Korea 3 to 1 before half time.
Japan is losing to South Korea by 3 goals to 1 at the moment.
Japan is down by 3 goals to 1 before half time.
In a soccer match, 'trailing' behind another team means lagging behind that team. It means that the other team is leading or winning at that time. So, 'trailing South Korea 3 to 1' means South Korea is leading by 3 goals to 1. It also means that Japan is losing to South Korea by 3 goals to 1. The usage of the preposition 'by' gives essence to the number of goals.

or
