How irritating when some people are being noisy and the rest of the world just wants to get on with some serious studies! Unfortunately these days, few people are prepared to confront such idiots and take them to rask about their rowdy behaviour. However, a library is similar to a sacred place and as such you may be sure that you are on safe ground with almost unanimous support. You approach the offenders and say: "Please have some respect for other library users.' Or, if it seems stronger language is needed, you may say: "Why don't you all just shut up!' It is a rhetorical question, and so is more of an exclamation than a question in this case. You need not expect an answer.

Sometimes people get carried away and start making noise and forget that other want to study. However you can tell them to keep the noise levels in a calm and polite way. You can use the above sentence to express yourself. For example: You:Could you please keep it down. I am trying to study. Colleagues: We are sorry we will keep it down.

You may politely ask the noisy persons by starting with the adverb 'please' which is an expression of politeness when asking a question or requesting something. So, you may say: Please do not make a noise in the library. In the second sentence, you have started with the reason why you are asking them to keep quiet. Again you have expressed your politeness by using the adverb 'please'. So, you may say: Your noise is disturbing us. Please keep quiet.

When peole are making too much noice in a library the customary response is" Shhh... Keep the noise down! this is a stock phrase that says it all efficiently:-D "A library is one of the few places I can study in peace. Shhh... Keep the noise down!"

You can use phrases like: Be quiet please. Please lower your voices. Please speak quietly. Keep your voices down. All are acceptable.

Any of the phrases above would be a polite way of asking someone to be quite in a library.

"Please lower you voice.", can be used to politely ask someone to be quiet, specifically when he/she is in a public place where silence is required, such as in a library. This statement conveys the message that you would like the person to be quiet without explicitly telling him to be quiet. "Please don't talk loudly in the library.", can also be used as an indirect way to tell someone to be quiet. While you are not explicitly telling the person to be quiet, you are politely requesting that he/she does so when you say this sentence to him/her.
