There is no such thing...は 〜というものは[存在](https://eikaiwa.dmm.com/uknow/questions/52186/)しない、という意味です。
例えば:
There is no such thing as a perfect human.
(完璧な人間というものは存在しない)。
There is no such thing as a perfect marriage.
(完璧な[結婚](https://eikaiwa.dmm.com/uknow/questions/36367/)生活 というものは存在しない)。
他には doesn't exist でシンプルに「存在しない」と言うこともできます。
例えば：
The perfect human doesn't exist.
(完全な人間は存在しない)。

no such thing asの「thing」は存在していないことの意味です。「such」は大体「みたいな」の意味です。そして、「There's no such thing as mermaids」は「人魚みたなものは存在しない。」に翻訳します。
doesn't existはもっと具体的に「ぜったい存在しない」の言い方です。ですから、「Mermaids don't exist」は「人魚が存在しない。」に翻訳します。
