Specifically selected and included by UNESCO is referred to as a World Heritage site or landmark. There are also the Natural Wonders of the world which is a list that keeps getting bigger, but they are not selected by UNESCO and they are part of nature, not man-made. Less specifically described is a world famous site, a world famous building or a world famous area. But that doesn't mean it is necessarily selected by the UNESCO and on the World Heritage list. The Leaning Tower of Pisa is one of the World Heritage sites. Stonehenge was selected as a World Heritage landmark. You can NOT say Mount Everest is world heritage. It must be specified. The Great Barrier Reef is included as in the World Heritage selection, sites, landmarks, places, etc.
